The intention was probably not to create a pretty and bubbly yet inspiring murderer. However Camilla Tanenbaum has her own lures.

Cami from Miami, as she calls herself, has a perfect smile, a better than perfect wink to go with her tongue clucking. But sadly she is as much real as Homer Simpson is. Despite this, one wonders what new energy she can inject into the world of the Simpsons as a potential candidate of Fox’s “Unleash Your Yellow” – an initiative to promote the 20th season of the much adored show.

The storyboard is as follows. Homer was late for a wedding so he was in a hurry as always. However he still stopped for a lottery ticket despite knowing that Marge would grumble if she came to know of it. And it is precisely at this moment when he comes across Cami and her 22 easy steps to become a winner. And he was so motivated that he tossed his lottery ticket in.

The Simpsons are known for their wit and sharp sarcasm to go with their yellow hue. And Cami is no different. She is an apt result of a creative exercise designed to woo back fans to their old favourite. It is primarily meant to cater to the adult audience but then the young ones can just satisfy their curiosity with the cute drawings (barring of course, a few episodes of the zombie-chopping type. Case in point: The Halloween special “Treehouse of Horror” episodes)

Coming back to the point, it is this fan obsession which leads to creations like Cami. She has her own dialogues, her own catchphrases as well as a backstory. Homicidal maniac cum aspiratory orator, she is given to giving roadside speeches after being cleared by the Springfield Home of the Criminally Insane of murderous behavior – an ailment not yet covered by the health care faculties at Washington.

Maybe Cami will be a popular character on the show if she is introduced. Maybe she will end up with Homer Simpson on the lanes and by lanes of Springfield. Till then, we can only hope she does.
